Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández has been ruled out of Argentina’s next friendly after suffering a knee issue during the international break.

As reported by TyC Sports, the Argentine Football Association announced that the Blues’ midfielder has been diagnosed with “synovitis in his right knee” and will miss Tuesday’s match against Puerto Rico.

The friendly was originally scheduled to be played in Chicago but was moved to Miami and postponed by a day due to storms in the area.

Chelsea’s Fernández started in Friday’s 1-0 win over Venezuela. He played 78 minutes before being replaced. According to the Argentine FA’s statement, he has already been released from the squad. That will be he can continue treatment and recovery under Chelsea supervision.

His absence adds to Argentina’s growing list of injuries. Real Madrid youngster Franco Mastantuono had also been withdrawn earlier due to a muscle overload.

The situation will be monitored closely at Stamford Bridge, since Fernández has been a regular under Enzo Maresca this season. Chelsea will hope the midfielder’s problem is minor.

The club’s next Premier League fixture is on October 18th, against Aston Villa.
