Tottenham Hotspur spent much of the summer transfer window pursuing a new attacking midfielder. They were left short of creativity in the middle of the park after James Maddison ruptured his ACL during a pre-season friendly against Newcastle United at the start of August.

The Lilywhites suffered several setbacks in their hunt for attacking reinforcements. Despite agreeing personal terms with the likes of Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze, they could not get their deals over the line. Gibbs-White stayed put at Nottingham Forest and signed a new contract, while Arsenal tempted Eze away from Crystal Palace.

Ultimately, Tottenham managed to bring in Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig on a long-term deal in the final week of the summer transfer window. The Europa League winners also bolstered their striker department with the deadline day acquisition of Randal Kolo Muani on a season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain. Yet, Thomas Frank was seemingly not satisfied with Tottenham’s summer business and still feels his squad can be strengthened in key areas.
