Former West Ham United winger Said Benrahma is facing serious legal trouble after being charged with two counts of owning dangerously out-of-control dogs. The incident, which allegedly took place in Hornchurch in 2023, is said to have left a man injured while out walking.

Benrahma, who now plays in Saudi Arabia for Neom, was not present at Willesden Magistrates’ Court on Thursday due to international commitments. However, he is expected to appear – either in person or via video link – on October 16.

The alleged victim is reported to have sustained injuries during the encounter with Benrahma’s XL Bully and an American Bulldog.

The XL Bully breed has been under intense scrutiny in the UK, leading to its inclusion in the Dangerous Dogs Act in 2023. Since February 2024, it has been illegal to own, breed, or sell XL Bullies without a licence. Owners must now ensure their dogs are neutered, muzzled, microchipped, and covered by public liability insurance.
