Naomi Osaka struggled to build upon an early edge in her matchup with Victoria Mboko in the 2025 Montreal Open Final.

Osaka won the first set of Thursday's match before Mboko stormed back to earn a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory.

Osaka was on the verge of winning her first WTA title since the 2021 Australian Open, but will now turn her attention towards the upcoming U.S. Open.

The four-time Grand Slam champion looked sharp at the beginning of her first WTA final since the 2022 Miami Open, converting two break points as she won the opening set.

Osaka went on to struggle with unforced errors throughout the majority of the ensuing two sets, while Mboko repeatedly capitalized on her opportunities.

At the end of the match, Mboko converted eight of nine break points while Osaka converted just six of her 13 chances.

The victory represented Mboko's first WTA Tour title. The 18-year-old also became just the second Canadian since 1969 to win the home event in the open era, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN).
